The Beauty of Grief

Dorothy Allison lives in Adelaide, South Australia. Several years ago, she began creating hand drawn mandalas and found that the process gave her a great deal of inner peace. In January of 2016, Dorothy lost her beloved son to suicide. He was thirty six years old.

Dorothy's love of creating mandalas helped her to channel her grief.

"My mandalas provided me with solace and comfort and continue to do so. In the first month I created a mandala for every year of his life, and then on the 20th of each month in the year after he died I created a mandala to honor his life."

While not a professional mandala artist, Dorothy says she devotes time to the art because it’s deeply personal, and "an amazing healing and encouraging experience."

Dorothy started a group on Facebook for fellow mandala artists. With close to 2,000 members worldwide, she named her group, Mandalas for a Season and says that she has made many wonderful friends through the group.
